La reescritura romántica del Diablo: El Diablo Mundo de Espronceda y la redención de Satán

di Edoardo Maccioni

This article examines the Romantic rewriting of the figure of Satan in El Diablo Mundo by José de Espronceda within the broader framework of new Romantic mythology. Focusing on Lucifer’s monologue in the poem’s Introducción, it explores the humanization of the Devil, his tragic dimension, and his symbolic role as an embodiment of the Romantic hero, shaped by suffering, metaphysical doubt, and a titanic drive toward knowledge. This paper further engages in a comparative dialogue with major French reinterpretations dating back to the nine-teenth century, particularly those by Alfred de Vigny and Victor Hugo. Finally, special attention is given to the Espronceda’s poem El Verdugo, where the executioner emerges as the symbolic projection of satanic crime.

Dolore, corpo e conoscenza nel Diablo Mundo di José de Espronceda: un’interpretazione incarnata tra Romanticismo e neurofenomenologia

di Simona Anna Conforti

This article investigates the epistemological significance of lived experience and pain in José de Espronceda’s El Diablo Mundo. Through the lens of a diversified framework encompassing various philosophical references —from Plato to Merleau-Ponty and contemporary embodied-cognition theories—it argues that pain, evolving from a physical to an existential level, constitutes here a privileged mode of access to knowledge. By analysing the personality of Adàn, we will see how his epistemic journey exemplifies the transition from romantic idealism to awareness of human finitude.
