Die Bedeutung des hebräischen Urtextes für Luthers Genesis-Übersetzung: Eine Analyse des semantischen Felds der Schöpfung

The aim of this article is to examine the extent to which the use of Biblical Hebrew influenced Martin Luther’s translation of the Bible. It focuses on the importance of the original Hebrew Bible text for the translation of the Book of Genesis, and it also analyzes how Luther found a balanced compromise between the sacred and the everyday language that could be understood by all social classes of that time. We will study some keywords of the semantic field of creation from the first two chapters of Genesis and their translation into German by Luther. This theme has been selected because it concerns the acts of naming the first human beings as well as their relationship with God and the primordial phenomena.…
